About Tate
Tate Freyjasson is a writer and visual artist that combines these elements to craft multimodal nonfiction, poetry, and fiction, as well as translations of these forms. Their work can be found in literary journals like Salamander, DIAGRAM, and Gulf Stream, among others. They are the author of the hybrid memoir Telomeres, as well as six chapbooks, including their most recent works, Space Baby: Episodes I-III and The Antichrist and I, and the full-length poetry collections we, animals and That Spell.
They have been serving the writing community for two decades as a freelance editor, as well as volunteering time to several literary journals and presses as a contest judge and genre editor. They also worked for over ten years as an Assistant Editor for Sundress Publications, where they curated anthologies and features such as Best of the Net.
They have also been working as an educator at the community and university levels since 2008, with a specific focus on curriculum development for creative writers. They also regularly share expertise on pop culture works, story structure, editing, publishing, and queer and disability literature at writing conferences across the United States.
With a focus on alla prima oil works, Tate exhibits art throughout Central Florida. Their paintings explore different states of reflection, both figurative and literal.
Tate was selected to be a Zoeglossia Fellow in 2022. Additionally, they were chosen as a Painting and Drawing Fellow by Crealdé School of Art in 2024, and a Studio Artist in 2025.
They are especially interested in helping writers at any stage of their career achieve their goals. To help facilitate this, Tate offers various editorial services, including developmental and line editing, for poems, essays, stories, and hybrid works. They happily work on full manuscripts or chapbook projects, as well as individual short works, including those that contain visual components. They can also serve as a sensitivity reader for various types of works dealing with LGBTQIA+ and disability issues. Please inquire using the Contact page.
